Retrograde Planets Excerpt from EG to Practical Astrology at Skywriter
Donna Cunningham is one of my favorite astrologers. Her books – especially “Healing Pluto Problems” and “Being a Lunar Type in a Solar World” – had a huge influence on me when I began studying astrology seriously and preparing to go pro. Her blog, Sky Writer, is a marvel – …

Mercury retrograde, Pluto, and the darker woods
mercury rx darker woodsOn Friday, Mercury turns retrograde at 5.58 Capricorn. The Sabian Symbol for 6 Capricorn is, I think, a beautiful and exciting one: “Ten logs lie under an archway leading to darker woods.” The logs can be the things that are blocking your mind, and powers of perception, from seeing the truth. But lay them out in a certain way, and they can also serve as steps that take you deeper into the darker woods.
Mercury is turning retrograde in a conjunction with Pluto and the Moon’s North Node, and the combination is, I think, related to telling some ugly truths – about yourself, about your world. Sometimes loss and shock and grief open up channels of communication that can’t be opened any other way.

Everyday Astrology: The Days of the Week
Most modern American families no longer grow our own food, other than what we produce in small hobby gardens. Few households have a full-time homemaker with time to mend hems and bake her own bread. Have we jettisoned the need for planetary wisdom along with our plows and thimbles?

What’s gone well
I wish I could say that I’ve been rising to the Mercury Retrograde challenge – catching up on filing, reorganizing cabinets, dusting off and reworking old manuscripts, or something equally self-actualized. But… not so much. Yes, I have inoculated all my web clients’ Word Press installations against a heinous worm …

Meanwhile, we’ve summoned …

A new desk and a new (and horrifying) look at myself
I think I’m allergic to my new desk. When will I learn not to buy new things while Mercury is Retrograde? First the computer, now this. Mind you, the desk is very fetching, quite fanciful and most appropriate for my progressed Moon in Pisces. It’s painted with a fabulous sort …

How’s that Full Moon treating you? I was sick with the flu a couple of weeks ago and busting my hump to catch up on my work last week, so I didn’t have time to write anything for the Full Moon. I did, however, post the following essay from a …

My San Diego colleague Terry Lamb has a new political blog, and her inaugural (get it? it’s a pun!) post takes an astrological look at tomorrow night’s presidential debate. (Spoiler: advantage, Obama.) And don’t miss her October forecast, full of interesting commentary about the current Mercury retrograde, the election, and …

We interrupt this program…
It was a day like any other. I was plugging away at some website work, went away to fix a cup of tea, and returned to my office to find my computer feverishly rebooting, spewing ominous messages on a blue screen, and generally losing its sh@t. Seems kinda virusy, actually, …

Never get involved in a land war in Asia
Only slightly less well known is this: Don’t buy a computer when Mercury is retrograde. Not even when it’s irresistibly pink, and on sale. And having been sick for so many days that you completely lost track of the current transits is no excuse. When we got home this afternoon …
