Eclipsealicious.

obama and meOther than cranking out reports for people, I hadn’t been paying much attention to Wednesday’s eclipse. “Not much in my chart sits at 17.44 of a fixed sign,” thought I… oh. Except my natal Sun, at 13.08 Leo, that is. Might that explain the uncontrollable tooth-grinding and exhaustion of the past week? Big week for my near-astrotwin Barack Obama, too, of course. Wonder how his teeth are holding up?

So here’s what you do with eclipses: Look where they fall in your chart, what they aspect, and the years when eclipses closely aspected this same point (I use conjunctions, oppositions, and squares within about 4 degrees). In the case of this eclipse, consider 2003/04, 1998-2000, 1993/94, 1990, just for starters. The overwhelming focus of the past few weeks for me has, of course, been the publication of le book. As it happens, this eclipse opposed my 9th house Sun – publishing, right? In 2004, the first of many articles I’ve written for the Llewellyn Moon Sign Book came out. In 1999, I started my website. In 1994, I published my first article in the Mountain Astrologer. In 1990 I started my first newsletter and went into practice as a professional astrologer.

See how that works?

On the other hand, here’s what Obama’s been doing with eclipses to his 9th house Sun at 12 Leo, prior to his stunning Super Tuesday performance: 2003/04, elected to the U.S. Senate. 2000: Mounted an unsuccessful run for the House of Representatives. 1998: Re-elected to the Illinois State Senate. 1993: Became of lecturer of constitutional law, University of Chicago Law School; 1990: Elected the first black president of Harvard Law Review. (And TWO books along the way. Showoff.)

What’s going on at about 13-22 of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius in your chart?

  • Only my Descendant/Chiron at 17/18 Aquarius and Uranus/Ascendant/Moon at 14/17/18 Leo. Can’t see any major events happening in prior eclipses in these areas, going back to 1984, at least as far as I can remember. The current eclipse sets off my Chiron return, though. Interesting to see how things unfold.

Also have the upcoming eclipse on the 21st on my natal Mercury + Venus/Pluto at 0/2 Virgo. 😛

Yipes. I have Mars at 20 Aqu. With Neptune in the middle of mucking it up.

  • Oh god. I get tired just thinking about my 1st house 19Sco Mars and my 10th house 18Leo Joop. Wednesday I was put through the paces of whatever it took to finally pull together those “animated” pieces we did for the executives. The project had been crazy for the past two weeks but it finally ended the day of the eclipse. And then, as you might have already read, today I heard they were a major success at the big meeting yesterday. I’m hoping this means I get to do more of this.

See, what I don’t understand is how come I didn’t get more family/home action on Wednesday, since the eclipse was in the 4th. But definitely the 1st and 10th were activated. Also, it felt far more like a full moon than an eclipse. It’s hard to explain.

As for those year periods, I had major stuff happen at the angles all those years. Fascinating.

  • leslee – Keep us posted about anything that seems eclipse/Chiron-ish. I’m feeling pressured to add that one to the rotation in my eclipse report and I don’t have the first clue about it. My own Chiron is a blind spot for me.. and so wound up with Pluto and the Ascendant that it’s hard to parse its meaning out from the rest of the tangled mess.

phel – Eclipse aspects to Mars can be sexy. So there’s that, anyway! 😉

And dear Maria – Congrats on your workplace victory! Eclipse action is often more evident in the houses where natal planets are placed… but usually that action is motivated by, benefits, or eventually complicates the matters ruled by the other house. Wait for the lunar eclipse on the 20th – and for that matter, the other eclipses in 2008 and 2009 in Leo/Aquarius – to get the full picture! (It’s so exciting, it’s soooo exciting! 😉 )

  • HAHA! Yes, that solar eclipse on August 1st to my MC should be something. The eclipse on the 21st of this month is just before my SF reading and signing (the night I leave town for SF, in fact). Good times. 😀 And thanks for the reminder. I have to say, the solar eclipses have always freaked me out — which makes sense being a Sun child at heart, as you can well relate to.

My natal sun is in Leo 8’53 in the 2nd house and it squares Taurus 8’36 in the 11th house. Fun!! Not really.

    Let’s see:

    1990. I was 20. I can’t remember much about this year.

1993/4. I had a good job as an assistant editor which I later quit to travel, I think.

1998. I left my job to write for full-time. At the end of 98, I left my then husband. Did manage to write some 10-12 short stories.

2000. Moved back to the U.S., got a job, took writing workshops. Tried to get a divorce, which finally came through in 2001.

2003/4. Went to grad school for creative non-fiction.

And… this eclipse certainly made me think about where I want my writing to go next. I think it’s time to let go of my fears and try to actually get published. It’s been 12 years of writing apprenticeship, after all. I don’t want to be a secretary forever.

  • Only Chironish thing going on here was getting a cold (lack of sleep when Chiron opposed my natal Uranus just before Ascendant/Moon), followed some oddball symptoms, most appropriately what I thought was a cough-induced hernia (I was born with one, repaired at 6 mos). My natal Chiron is opp that Asc/Moon. I didn’t think “opening up old wounds” was to be taken literally! But the dr says it’s fine. Uranus influence is a bit prone to freaking out. And transiting Uranus is opposing my Sun now too. 😀

Lunar eclipse next week on my Venus/Pluto, where Saturn was transiting the day my mom died.

Lots of processing old stuff, but in a happy way. Suppose that’s the healing part of Chiron.
