Weddings: Which is the *real* ceremony?

wedding astrology

Strenuous and glitzy PR notwithstanding, I’m going on record as claiming that the TomKat nuptial roadshow stop in Italy yesterday was not their real wedding. But don’t take it from me: A statement about the wedding by Cruise’s people included the statement, “As is customary for couples marrying outside of the United States, Cruise and Holmes officialized their marriage in Los Angeles prior to their departure for Italy.”

In other words, they were legally married before their public wedding.

This brings up a question that brides ask me on a regular basis, since I do a lot of work choosing wedding dates using astrology. For a variety of reasons, a couple might need to marry in a particular place or on a particular day, but are willing to have a civil ceremony on a different date to ensure they are beginning their marriage on a good astrological note. Which, they ask me, is the “real” ceremony?

My answer is always the same: The moment you enter into a legally-binding marriage by saying “I do,” you’re married. That’s the chart we use to evaluate your marriage astrologically. So regardless of how many celebrity guests, photographers, and snipers TomKat had at their paparazzi-perfect Italian wedding on November 18, the chart we really should wonder about is the one for that quiet, oh-so-private moment in the Los Angeles County Clerk’s office when they were actually married.

Of course, the chances of that information leaking out are pretty small. Seems the notoriously secretive Cruise, despite having staged the most talked-about celebrity wedding of the year, has managed to have a top secret Scorpio stellium wedding after all!

I didn’t manage to pull together a Thursday 13 this week, but will return with another (I hope) just before I leave town for Thanksgiving.

  • HA!

They married during that Mercury Rx in Scorpio. In fact, half the frilling universe was probably in Scorpio when they did, including maybe Venus. It figures, duddenit?
