The Spell
Mercury enters Scorpio this week (Oct. 6, 2025, 9:41 am PDT), and like all transits, this one has the potential to bring problems. Mercury is related to communication, and while it’s in protective Scorpio our tongues can be a bit rough when we’re feeling angry or threatened. Unwelcome secrets might be revealed. Pets (ruled in general by Mercury) might need extra attention.
But this is actually an outstanding transit for all kinds of things, conferring a kind of x-ray vision that comes in mighty handy. Those weird, few, unreconciled transactions in Quickbooks? Time to figure out why they’re hanging out there. Preparing a presentation or report that requires a lot of in-depth research? Now’s the time to tackle that; Scorpio likes rooting around to come up with hidden treasures. Need to address a security issue with your computer? Here’s your moment to get to the bottom of it.
And if you’re overdue for a candid conversation with a loved one about your relationship, you’ll both be well equipped to tackle that now. But remember that words carry power; we cast spells with them, whether we mean to or not. So, use language intentionally while Mercury is in Scorpio, and be conscious of the spell you’re casting.
Moonlight and Fireworks
Each Full Moon shines its light on things we haven’t been able to see before, and particularly on the inner, lunar landscape. During each Sun in Libra season, an Aries Full Moon highlights the ways in which we’ve been prioritizing ourselves, whether more or less than is healthy for our relationships with others. And at this particular Aries Full Moon (Oct. 6, 2025, 8:47 pm PDT, 14º08′), with the Sun and Moon connecting with Jupiter in Cancer, moonlight and fireworks illuminate the sky, and show how old patterns influence current relationships.
This Aries Full Moon is part of a lunar phase family cycle that began with the dramatic Solar Eclipse of April 8, 2024, at 19º24′ Aries. The Sun and Moon at that eclipse were squeezed into a large stellium with Mercury, Venus, and the Moon’s North Node, all in Aries. The Aries place in our birth charts was awakened by one loud question: What about me? And ever since, we may have been struggling to figure out what to do with the spaces that opened up there.
This Full Moon reveals some answers, as almost every important relationship – with family, with your partner, most importantly, with yourself – is tested.
Trolls
There are shadowy, nasty impulses lurking inside each of us. They are where Pluto lives, like trolls under a bridge.
While transiting Mercury squares Pluto (Oct. 7, 2025, 7:40 am PDT, 1º22′ Scorpio and Aquarius), we meet one of these trolls along the road. Something we read, some conversation we have, awakens an ugly thought; it might be jealousy, or contempt, or an illicit idea you’d never act upon. Don’t be afraid of these thoughts. They’re just Mercury’s way of introducing you to one of your trolls, so you can make friends with it – and then, it will lose its power over you.
As in a fairy tale, each of these encounters requires you to give your name and answer a question correctly before you can pass. The trick is, we call ourselves by many names – not just the one on our government ID, but also titles like Mother, Father, Husband, Wife, Best Friend. The key is to find the name that’s called by this encounter, and then you’ll know how to answer the question that’s asked of you.
Claire’s House
Claire lived simply in a little apartment, in a small town. Frugal and fiercely independent, she felt that nothing was worth being in another’s debt. So, when she found the house of her dreams, a little cottage at the edge of town, her heart broke a little. She didn’t earn enough to get a mortgage and wouldn’t have wanted one, anyway. Besides, as far as she knew, it wasn’t even for sale.
But she couldn’t get this house out of her mind. Like a lovelorn suitor, she walked past the cottage several times a week, dreaming of living there, but certain it could never be hers.
Claire decided to appeal for magical intercession. She burned a candle and incense. She asked, in simple language, for her dream house to belong to her.
Two days later, she walked past the cottage again. For the first time, someone was in the yard – an old man, with a fine, fluffy cat. Impulsively, she told him, “You live in my dream house.” She was shocked when tears came to his eyes. “It used to be my dream house,” he said. But as it happened, his wife had died, and he wasn’t happy living there alone. His daughter wanted him to move in with her, in the next town.
He invited Claire in for tea, poured from an old, well-used pot. The cat jumped into her lap and purred. And at the end of a long visit, they had made an arrangement for Claire to buy the house, under very agreeable terms.
I believe that everything and everyone has somebody who was uniquely designed to love it – with a Venus that fits it exactly. And if the universe wants it to be yours, maybe you just have to ask. When Venus (what we’re designed to love) sextiles Jupiter (the great gift-giver) (Oct. 8, 2025, 4:41 am PDT), don’t be afraid to ask for whatever fits your heart, and leave it to the universe to figure out the details.
The Nexus of Committed Love
Love is easy, but relationships take work. That’s the message of this week’s Venus/Saturn opposition (Oct. 11, 2025, 4:10 am PDT, 26º59’ Virgo and Pisces). This is certainly true of relationships based on love, but those centered on shared values or money (also ruled by Venus) also require ongoing effort.
An opposition is an aspect that gives us the opportunity to stand on either side and get a clearer view of the other. We may stand in Venus’ place and observe how Saturn enriches our relationships with stability and commitment – or that it sometimes seems like a wet blanket that says “no” to everything. And we may stand in Saturn’s place and appreciate how Venus’ beauty, grace, and pleasure make life worth living – or dismiss its contributions as frivolous. The sweet spot lies in the middle, where Venus and Saturn meet at a nexus of committed love, well-compensated work, pleasure and discipline.
