Jupiter in Cancer: At Home in the World!
Hello, Invisible Friend. April here, and the date today is June 9th, 2025. Welcome to Episode 294 of the Big Sky Astrology Podcast.
This week, prepare to work through some conflicts as practically everything in this busy week seems to be square everything else. Mercury and Jupiter clash with Saturn. Venus squares Pluto, Mars squares Uranus, Mercury squares Neptune, and the Sun squares the lunar nodes, signaling the midpoint between eclipse seasons. The Sagittarius Full Moon highlights the big picture, and for a little respite from all those hard aspects, Jupiter moves into one of its favorite signs, Cancer. And I answer a listener question about planets that are in difficult aspect, but in compatible signs.
Mercury squares Saturn (June 9, 2025, 3:48 am PDT)
Mercury squares Saturn on June 9th at 3:48 AM Pacific Time at zero degrees, 59 minutes, Cancer and Aries. When Mercury is square Saturn, we are encouraged to take responsibility for our actions and our feelings – since this Mercury is in Cancer – and above all, what we say or don’t say. Delays and obstacles are a likelihood when it comes to travel and communication. So if you’ve been planning a little road trip, this Monday is not necessarily the right one for that.
But what I will say, go ahead and tackle projects that you know will be difficult, because this is an aspect that is designed to deal with difficult things. If there are subjects or topics, or communications that it can be really hard for you to focus on and persevere with, this square to Saturn will make you do it. So it’s an especially good day for things like catching up on your paperwork, working through stubborn problems on your computer and this kind of thing.
Venus squares Pluto (June 9, 2025, 10:20 am PDT)
Also, on June 9th at 10:20 AM Pacific Time, Venus squares Pluto at 3 degrees 31 minutes Taurus and Aquarius. Pluto in aspect to any planet is pretty much like putting a big old exclamation mark at the end of that planet, and whatever happens during an aspect like this one, we don’t feel neutral about it.
In the case of Venus square Pluto, this is an aspect that can indicate major losses or major gains in the realms of Venus, things like relationships and finance, and it’s also the kind of aspect that can really make us realize that nothing lasts forever.
Venus’ Sabian symbol, 4 Taurus, The rainbow’s pot of gold, is about the promise of abundance and being profoundly moved by beauty and imagination. Pluto’s Sabian symbol is 4 Aquarius, A Hindu healer, who we have been seeing most weeks while Pluto has been around this degree of Aquarius. And this is about spiritual focus, about healing ourselves of imbalances.
So what we’re trying to do at this Venus square Pluto is work to find a balance between physical abundance – Venus – and the spiritual concerns of that Sabian symbol that Pluto is on.
Jupiter enters Cancer (June 9, 2025, 2:02 pm PDT)
June 9th is turning out to be a really busy day, astrologically. Lots of aspects, including Jupiter entering the sign of Cancer at 2:02 PM Pacific Time. It will be in the sign through June 29th, 2026. Jupiter has a 12-year cycle of going through the Zodiac, so it spends about one year in each sign. It was last in the sign of Cancer from June 25th, 2013, through July 16th, 2014. So you may see a few similarities during the next year to the last time Jupiter was in the sign, because Jupiter, of course, will be moving through the same area of your chart that it did then.
Now, it might seem a little bit odd that a globe-trotting planet like Jupiter is considered exalted or in one of his strongest signs in Cancer, which is a sign of being at home with your family, with the people you know well. But I always think that if you carry a strong sense of home inside you, then you can go anywhere in the world and feel, to some extent, as though you are at home. And the more you see of the world, the more of it feels like home to you, the more of its people feel like your family.
Jupiter in the sign of Cancer is a time to open our homes and open our hearts, and this is true of spending time with family and old friends, but also about breaking bread with people who are different from you.
Cancer is the sign of your physical home as well. This could be the year that you decide to enlarge your home or renovate, or just make it cozier. With Jupiter involved, though, we do have to remind you, just mind your budget. This can be a year that you will see your family expand. You might have new members joining your family through birth or through marriage.
To really evaluate what Jupiter will bring to your chart, first of all, consider the house or houses of your chart that have Cancer on the cusp or inside the house, and also look at the houses of your chart that Jupiter rules, so the houses of your chart that have Sagittarius and Pisces on the cusp. We’ll also feel a significant impact of Jupiter moving into this new sign of wanting more, of wanting to expand your horizons.
Mercury squares Neptune (June 9, 2025, 3:54 pm PDT)
And on you guessed it, June 9th at 3:54 PM Pacific Time, Mercury in Cancer squares Neptune in Aries at two degrees exactly. The Sabian symbol for Mercury is 2 Cancer, A man suspended over a vast level place. It always brings to mind for me Philippe Petit, an aerialist who in 1974 walked a tightrope between the twin towers of the World Trade Center. If you ever get a chance, watch the documentary about the preparations for this rather miraculous feat. It’s called Man on Wire. Mercury connecting with Neptune, even by square, brings inspiration, and any impossible journey begins with a vision. Neptune in Aries has big, courageous dreams and as Mercury is connecting with it, it comes up with some kind of great dream or inspiration, a project that lies ahead and Mercury then is in charge of breaking it down into little pieces so that at the end of it all, we can achieve the big dream.
Sagittarius Full Moon (June 11, 2025, 12:44 am PDT)
And now it’s time for the Moon report! And we begin, as always, with the week’s major lunation, the Sagittarius Full Moon on June 11th at 12:44 AM Pacific Time at 20 degrees, 39 minutes Sagittarius on the Sabian symbol 21 Sagittarius, A child and a dog with borrowed eyeglasses. I love that image. It’s about seeing things at least temporarily through somebody else’s eyes.
So this Full Moon reveals what it was that we set in place at the Gemini New Moon on May 26th. The Full Moon in Sagittarius looks at the New Moon plans and asks “What is the big picture?”
The Gemini New Moon is very interested in acquiring lots of little bits and pieces and information and meeting lots of people. Sagittarius has quite a different aim than that. So the Full Moon in Sagittarius says, “How does it all fit together? What are you really trying to make here? What is the big picture?” This is a time to think about why you set those goals and what they will mean in the overall scheme of your life, not necessarily the way that Gemini often thinks. It looks at little bits and pieces and says, “Ooh, what can I do with this?” But isn’t necessarily thinking of the big picture.
The Sagittarius Full Moon also shines a light on how honest we are being. Sagittarius is associated with honesty. We think of it as an honest, even blunt sign. And I always kind of think that the reason for this is Sagittarius demands freedom and figures. The less they hide, the freer they are, and also the more energetic and the more creative.
The Moon in Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, and at this Full Moon, Jupiter is square Saturn and Neptune. Anytime you have Jupiter in a difficult aspect with Saturn, it means there’s tension between the processes of expansion and contraction.
So the expansion and contraction of beliefs, foreign travel, immigration, higher learning, passion projects, but these big visions are getting a bit of a reality check from Saturn, even while Neptune in Aries is fanning the flames and saying, yes, more, bigger visions. The right spirit overall for a Sagittarius Moon is to not take ourselves too seriously, and that’s a little harder to do as this Moon’s ruler, Jupiter, is square Saturn.
But if we laugh first, it gives others the chance to laugh with us rather than at us. Plan jubilant things at this Full Moon. Plan a trip. Plan a big party.
If you need to appeal to others, say you have a job interview or some other scenario where you really need to make a good impression, wear Sagittarius colors. I always say Sagittarius colors are the colors of Mardi Gras: purple, green gold. Wear a big smile, project a spirit of optimism and adventure and of being someone with a big, bright idea.
Lunar Phase Family Cycle
This is the Full Moon in a lunar phase family cycle that began with a New Moon on December 12th, 2023, at 20 degrees, 40 minutes Sagittarius. Ideas, plans, and intentions that came up for you at that time, of the nature of Sagittarius, the big dream, the big picture, education, travel, are now fully illuminated by this Full Moon, and we can see exactly what it was that we planted at that time. At the New Moon, we’re planting new things, but we’re kind of doing it in the dark, so we don’t always know exactly what it is that we planted until the Full Moon.
The First Quarter in this lunar phase family cycle came on September 10th, 2024, at 19 degrees Sagittarius. That’s when we would’ve taken some leap of faith, taken some kind of action towards those New Moon ideas and plans.
And then at the Last Quarter Moon in this cycle, on March 11th, 2026, at 20 degrees, 49 minutes Sagittarius, we do some fine tuning and we figure out: In the grand scheme of things, what did that New Moon bring to us and where is it taking us next?
Void-of-Course Moon Periods
Let’s look at the Void-of-Course Moon periods for this week. On June 9th, the Moon in Scorpio opposes Uranus at 5:06 AM Pacific Time. It’s Void-of-Course for two hours, 49 minutes, and then enters Sagittarius at 7:55 AM.
When the Moon opposes another planet before it goes Void-of-Course, we say there is an awareness that comes our way. Now, there could be a chance that people could be very cranky and unpredictable, especially during the morning hours of this day, and it is a very full day. A lot of the things that we spoke about in the first part of this episode are all happening on June 9th.
So if people are a little bit scratchy, instead of taking it personally, use this Void-of-Course Moon period to initiate a habit of just kind of being an observer in situations, choosing not to engage. If somebody seems to be picking a fight with you, just take a step back and remember that their issues probably don’t have anything to do with you, and then just go along your way.
On June 11th, the Moon in Sagittarius trines Mars at 12:58 PM Pacific Time. It’s Void-of-Course for 5 hours, 57 minutes, and enters Capricorn at 6:55 PM. The Moon trine another planet, as it goes Void-of-Course, brings us a little bit of a gift or a reward. This happens just minutes after that, big, powerful Sagittarius Full Moon. Physical energy and confidence really go through the roof when the Moon trines Mars in high-energy Fire signs. Use this Void-of-Course Moon period to initiate a habit of believing in your own capabilities. This is a really excellent time for creative work and also for self-promotion.
And on June 14th, the Moon in Capricorn trines Uranus at 1:52 AM Pacific Time. It’s Void-of-Course for two hours, eight minutes, and then enters Aquarius at 4:00 AM. If you live in the US, you’ll probably be sleeping or just waking up during this Void-of-Course Moon. So, leading up to bedtime, alter your routine just a little bit. Uranus loves it when we change things up, and if you’re waking up at this time, maybe change what you have for breakfast. Wear something that’s been sitting in the back of your closet, unworn for many months. If you’re on your way to work, take a different route. The Moon in Capricorn doesn’t necessarily love changes in routine. It kind of likes to set a schedule and a predictable course of action, but the trine to Uranus will reward even the smallest changes because they will open us up and get us out of any rut we might happen to be in.
Sun squares the Lunar Nodes (June 13, 2025, 2:47 am PDT)
On June 13th at 2:47 AM Pacific Time, the Sun squares the lunar nodes at 22 degrees, 38 minutes Gemini, Pisces, and Virgo. This is the midway point between eclipse seasons. This point triggers the March 13th total lunar eclipse that was at 23 degrees, 56 minutes, Virgo and Pisces. And it also gives us a sneak preview of the September 7th total lunar eclipse at 15 degrees, 22 minutes Pisces.
If you have any planets or points in your chart between 15 and 24 degrees of the mutable signs, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces, this square from the Sun to the nodes might awaken the feeling of being at a turning point related to those planets. A square aspect sometimes can make us feel as if we’re not getting anywhere and we will never reach those cherished goals of the North Node, but don’t believe it. Recommit to taking even the smallest step toward what is really important to you.
Mars squares Uranus (June 15, 2025, 2:47 am PDT)
Mars squares Uranus on June 15th at 2:47 AM Pacific Time at 28 degrees, 54 minutes Leo and Taurus. This is a combination of planets that is pretty volatile, even in the best of circumstances, and having a square aspect between them at nearly the last degree of their signs, that’s not necessarily the best of circumstances.
A square indicates pushing, and sometimes we need to push, but if you push at the wrong time or in the wrong way, if you’re moving fast and being impulsive, and especially in situations that are unfamiliar to you, well, pushing can be a problem.
This is often considered an aspect of accidents. I really think it just points to the tendency to be in a hurry and be impulsive, which is a Mars thing combined with Uranus and unexpected situations. If you think of getting up in the middle of the night and taking off really quickly to go to the kitchen for a glass of water and then realize too late that you have left a dining room chair pulled out and you stumble over it, then you get the idea of how Mars with Uranus can work. So it’s kind of a good idea to take it a little easy this week, avoid situations that you know for a fact can be kind of dangerous.
Mars is a work planet and I love its Sabian symbol 29 Leo, A Mermaid, which brings this note of fantasy and inspiration to your work. Uranus is on 29 Taurus. The symbol for that is Two cobblers working at a table. Mars in Leo doesn’t always love collaborating, but it might work really well for you this week.
Jupiter squares Saturn (June 15, 2025, 7:36 am PDT)
On June 15th, at 7:36 AM Pacific Time, Jupiter in Cancer squares Saturn. This is the last of three squares from Jupiter to Saturn. The first was on August 19th, 2024. The second was on December 24th, 2024. Jupiter symbolizes expansion, growth, pushing the envelope, wanting more, and Saturn is the symbol of boundaries and constriction. When these two planets are in a square aspect, they are both struggling. Jupiter is struggling to free itself from Saturn’s constrictions and Saturn is struggling to contain Jupiter before its enthusiasm gets out of hand and causes trouble.
This combination of planets is closely associated with the economy and the current cycle began on December 21st, 2020, with that spectacular conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn at zero degrees 29 minutes Aquarius and now Pluto is sitting very close to that spot. The COVID Pandemic definitely had, we’ll say, an interesting impact on economies all over the world. And now as these planets get to their first square in the cycle, we’re seeing major disruption between spending and expansion on one hand, and actions designed to cut or contain spending on the other.
We have been taking a little bit of a wild economic ride since that conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn at the end of 2020, and this is an interesting action point in this overall cycle.
Listener Question: How to interpret planets that are in difficult aspect, but in compatible signs.
In this week’s listener question, listener Paula writes; “Hello, April, and thank you for your delightful podcast each and every week.” Well, thank you, Paula. “Today I have a question about aspects that take place on the cusps of signs.
“When an aspect takes place at very early or very late degrees, does the altered energy of those signs change the vibe of that aspect? Even though the aspect by degree is still technically a square, a quincunx, et cetera. For example, if Jupiter is at 29 degrees of Gemini and is squaring Saturn at zero degrees Aries, that is a square aspect by degree. But is the energy also changed to the vibe of a sextile? Or if Mercury is at 29 degrees Taurus and is quincunx Jupiter at zero Capricorn? That is a quincunx, but is the energy by sign also a trine? This is an occurrence I’ve noticed more as I continue studying astrology and I wasn’t sure if these cusp aspects should be read with special care.”
Paula, thank you so much for that question. I get where you’re coming from, but aspects are very specific relationships. And a quincunx at 151 degrees is very far from a trine at 120 degrees, so I don’t think that planets in a dissociate aspect or out of sign aspect have quite that relationship. An aspect within one degree of orb is very close, and that will be the message that comes through loud and clear, that aspect.
But you have a point about the harmony between the signs. For example, Mercury in Taurus and Jupiter in Capricorn, in your example, are both in earth signs. And from that point of view, they kind of get each other. This compatibility of element might very well influence how we experience that aspect.
Let me offer a story to illustrate this. Let’s say you have a friend that you have great conversations with. You get together and you hatch big ideas, maybe business-related or related to raising money, which speaks to Mercury and Jupiter in earth signs. But then, almost immediately upon actually trying to get one of these enterprises up and running, things just fail to click. Maybe one of you is happy to just hatch the idea, but then passes the actual work over to the other, or one of you naturally takes charge and the other is like, I never actually signed off on that.
It’s almost as though the condition of being in compatible signs makes these two planets assume that they’re gonna get along great. The actual quincunx aspect between them tends to produce situations where neither of them is completely happy at the same time.
Anyway, Paula, I’m not going to pretend to be the world’s expert on this question, but these are some thoughts about how to look at it as you go forward with your studies, and I hope that you find it helpful.
