Obsolete
Let’s say you’re a fantastic typewriter repair person. You’ve spent your career learning the idiosyncrasies of various makes and models, where to get replacement parts and in some cases, fashioning them yourself.
The problem is, hardly anybody uses typewriters anymore.
You can be the very best at something, but if it’s something that’s on its ways to becoming obsolete, you’re not going to get many opportunities to use your talents. As Mercury opposes innovative Uranus (Oct. 7, 2020, 1:54 p.m. PDT) this week, you’re offered a fresh perspective on your situation. Spend time in meditation, exploring your intuition, to find the the innovative thinking that will get you to the next level. You’ve received a couple of hints along the way, back with Mercury conjoined (April 30) and squared (Aug. 10) Uranus.
The Wheel
Sometimes we have no choice but to fight, even if we’re pacifists by nature. This week, the second of three Mars/Pluto squares (Oct. 9, 2020, 6:19 am PDT; the first square was on August 13, the last is December 2) says this is one of those times. Fighting doesn’t have to be aggressive or noisy – though with Mars currently in Aries, it may seem that it does. But this is still Sun in Libra season, after all, and though we are sorely tried we can still comport ourselves like civilized humans if we put our minds to it.
This Mars and Pluto are featured players in a powerful cardinal Grand Cross configuration, constellated with many other planets in tense aspect. The Sun in civilized Libra is opposed Mars in warlike Aries, with both of them square a protective Cancer Moon opposed Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto in Capricorn, symbolizing the powers that be. With all the cardinal signs represented, the wheel of fortune is spinning – and when it gets turning, it’s tough to stop it. Reach out to Neptune in Pisces, whose good aspects to the Cancer and Capricorn planets are a lifeline; pursue Pisces strategies of rest, retreat, and immersion in activities that are physically and spiritually restorative.
The voice
This Last Quarter Moon in Cancer (Oct. 9, 2020, 5:39 pm PDT) is the conclusion of a phase family that was conceived on July 12, 2018, with a Solar Eclipse at 20.41 Cancer; demanded action at the First Quarter Moon at 22.35 Cancer on April 12, 2019; and was fully revealed at a Full Moon Lunar eclipse on Jan. 10, 2020 at 20.00 Cancer. In other words, we’ve been building up to this. It isn’t just any Last Quarter Moon; it’s the final chapter in a rather fraught eclipse story from July 2018. Find where 20-22 deg. Cancer falls in your birth chart. That’s where the story has been unfolding. You know more about the situation now. You have experience. Time to bring this ship onto the shore.
The Sabian symbol for the July 2018 eclipse that started it all is, A prima donna singing. The January lunar eclipse was on the same symbol. A prima donna can refer to someone with an inflated sense of self-worth or importance. But in opera, a prima donna is the most talented female singer, to whom the best roles are given. So let’s imagine that since July 2018, you’ve been trying to create something that lets your voice be heard. For your very best talents to be seen and recognized. You’re almost there.
Awake
There are lots of ways to wake up. Some involve jarring, blaring alarm clocks or earthquakes. Others involve a lovable pet who wants breakfast, or a snuggly, amorous partner who wants you.
I point this out because Venus (money and partners) is in aspect to Uranus, a planet of awakening and unexpected events this week (Oct. 10, 2020, 4:07 pm PDT), and that can sound a little scary. But the aspect between them is a harmonious trine, which sounds more like a kitten than an earthquake. You may see pleasant developments in your personal relationships, or a long-anticipated financial windfall, since Venus also rules money.
Arrest
The Sun’s Sabian Symbol at the Last Quarter Moon was 18 Libra, Two men placed under arrest. And its symbol as the Sun squares Jupiter (Oct. 11, 6:35 am) is 19 Libra: A gang of robbers in hiding. There is definitely a theme, this week, of having to come clean with who we are (the Sun) and whether we’re living in alignment with our professed beliefs (Jupiter). We can hide from our accusers, but we can’t hide from ourselves.
This aspect is the last chapter in a Sun/Jupiter story that originated just after Christmastime 2019, when the Sun and Jupiter were conjoined. What began then, in the Capricorn area of your chart? With the Sun now in Libra, others may confront us about our inconsistencies. It’s not too late to have a successful transit of Jupiter in Capricorn before it moves into Aquarius – but it means being accountable for the reality of how your actions and beliefs impact others.
