A Fast-Talking World

First Draft
There’s something to be said for acting with speed. Not always, of course. But let’s say you want to build something that’s unique and visionary, as many of us do now that Saturn is in Aquarius. It can feel overwhelming to tackle it all at once; we can be daunted by our own vision. But Venus in Aries brings confidence and Mars in Gemini are good jugglers, and as they meet in a bright sextile aspect this week (April 6, 2021, 4:17 am PDT), we can frame a house, draft a book, sketch a garden design, or make a dent in anything else we’ve been wanting to do – and in record time.
This is a sexy combination, too, but it might be a little better for flirtation than for serious connections. With Venus and Mars both connecting with Saturn, beware of making a light flirtation into something permanent, prematurely. But if you’re already in a committed relationship, Venus and Mars may bring a little romance into a staid routine – and it’s a good time to plan a romantic getaway.

Slowing Things Don
If you’ve ever let yourself get talked into something by a charming fast-talker, even as your intuition was thrashing madly like a fish trying to detach itself from a hook, you have some idea of the potential dangers of Mars in Gemini square Neptune in Pisces (April 9, 2021, 12:18 pm PDT). Whether it’s buying a car, filing our taxes, or negotiating to buy a house, we have to learn to defend ourselves in a fast-talking world. This means sharpening our minds, learning to trust our intuition, and putting on the brakes if we need time to think things through.

Promises to ourselves
In order to pursue happiness, we have to create a life that supports that pursuit. This means saying no to things that don’t support our goals, in favor of building systems that reinforce our desired outcome. And it means making promises to ourselves that we refuse to break.
If what we want is a life that offers options, flexibility, and freedom, we need look no further than this week’s trine from Saturn to the North Node (April 9, 2021, 7:57 pm PDT) and Mercury’s sextiles to both (April 10, 6:48 am and 8:08 am PDT). Our hard work and skills are opening doors to the future, and this week we may attract the notice of the very people who can help us walk through those doors.

Fearless
Let’s visualize a woman who loves a challenge (Venus, currently in Aries). She seems fearless. And when an opportunity comes her way to take a big chance on a completely unique adventure (Venus sextile Jupiter, April 10, 2021, 11:53 am PDT), the choice to seize on it seems like a no-brainer. But she’s about to find out how fearless she really is, as Venus squares Pluto (April 11, 2021, 8:20 pm PDT). Can she stand up to the memory of every authority figure who’s ever dismissed her as too brash, too immature, or too impatient, and tried to control her wildish nature? Can she stand up to her secret self-doubts? And can she buckle down and do everything that’s needed to take full advantage of this opportunity?

A Marathon
The New Moon in Aries (April 11, 2021, 7:31 pm PDT) marks the moment when the soil we broke open at the Aries equinox (March 20) is now ready to receive our seeds of intention. It is a challenging New Moon chart, however, with the Sun and Venus square Pluto. We may meet this New Moon feeling weighed down with responsibilities, but also quietly determined – because at this very driven New Moon, we’re obsessed with getting something that we want. And with the New Moon sextile Mars and Jupiter, we’re filled with energy and big ambitions. But as the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for – you just might get it. Be sure it’s something that’s in the best interest of all, yourself included.
This New Moon initiates a new Lunar Phase Family cycle, a story that will unfold over the next two and a half years. Whatever you conceive now will be require your courageous action at the Jan. 9, 2022 First Quarter Moon in Aries. At the Oct. 9, 2022 Full Moon in Aries, you get a full look at what this month’s New Moon intentions have reaped. And the Aries Last Quarter Moon of July 9, 2023 brings a final critical moment of reassessment: based on what you know, what action is necessary to bring the project to a satisfying completion?
Pluto’s Sabian symbol at this New Moon is, A mountain pilgrimage. However much the Aries New Moon craves fast results, this is a marathon, not a sprint. As my friend Jen suggests in this week’s podcast episode, if you just wake up one morning, decide to climb a mountain, and strap on your climbing boots, you won’t get too far. This week’s message is that diligence and hard work will ultimately be rewarded with recognition and new opportunities – and they are part of your preparation for that pilgrimage.
