Astrology Highlights for June 1-7, 2026: Coming Home

Unsupervised

Mercury goes out-of-bounds (exceeding 23°28’ declination) on May 31. Out-of-bounds planets are outside the boundaries of the Sun’s path through the ecliptic, so they are, symbolically, beyond the Sun’s “supervision.” Planets in this condition accept no rules and know no boundaries – which can get us into trouble from time to time, but which also encourages unique creativity.

Similar to a Mercury/Uranus aspect, Mercury out-of-bounds is helpful for problem-solving and creative breakthroughs, especially since Venus has also been out-of-bounds since May 6 (through June 4). If you’ve been trying without success to complete a creative project, it could be that the answer is to throw the whole thing out and start from scratch. But if it were me, with the Sun currently about to sextile Saturn I’d stow current projects someplace safe; we might want to salvage pieces of it next month.

Coming Home

You’ve spent a long, happy few weeks tramping through the countryside. Along the way, you’ve thoroughly enjoyed meeting fellow travelers, telling stories, and enjoying the fresh air, camping under brilliant night skies.

But after three weeks, you’re tiring of the wind biting your face, of never seeing anyone familiar, of eating nuts and berries. One evening around dinner time, you find yourself walking past a cozy-looking cottage, the delicious smells of dinner wafting out of the window and the curl of wood smoke coming from the chimney. Someone calls from the backdoor and the family dog bounds inside. You hear the familiar sounds of children complaining about their baths and a tv murmuring.

And all of the sudden, you’ve never wanted anything as much as you’ve wanted to be sitting in your own little home, with your own little family – secure and loved amongst people with whom you don’t need to say a word. You don’t have to make them laugh or entertain them with your stories. They love you even when you don’t speak at all.

That’s what Mercury wants as it leaves Gemini this week and enters Cancer (June 1, 2026, 4:56 am PDT).

Filling Out the Ballot

Most of us have found ourselves, at some time or another, volunteering our talents and energy to a project or cause that we’ve decided is worthwhile. A sextile between the Sun and Saturn (June 2, 2026, 3:49 pm PDT at 12º24’ Gemini-Aries) symbolizes this kind of opportunity might be coming our way, and it can be richly rewarding to devote our whole, true selves to something important.

But the Sun is on the Sabian symbol 13 Gemini, A great musician at his piano – presumably banking some of those 10,000 hours of practice that are supposed to lead to mastery – and bodes well for more personal projects, too. The Sun in Gemini can be reluctant to settle down and make a long-term commitment to something, but the sextile to Saturn gives it a lot more determination and stick-to-it-iveness.

It’s an especially good transit for projects like sorting through paperwork or mastering some new piece of software or an app. For example, I’ve been trying to find the motivation to sit down and tackle my primary election ballot, with its 62 gubernatorial candidates; it’s due on this date, so I’m going to use part of the day to make my selections!

It’s important with Saturn in Aries to look through things carefully and avoid rushing past the details. Saturn will usually slow down our impulsive Aries side a bit, but it’s still important to pay close attention to what we’re doing.

Accessing the Hard Drive

I recently ran across an article about psychologists reporting a dramatic uptick in middle-aged patients who are troubled by memory loss and the inability to retrieve names and common words. As it happens, it’s not just dementia that has an effect on memory, but simple stress and anxiety as well.

I found this a relief, because I’ve been finding it really tough to focus lately. I move rapidly from one task to another, only to freeze in my tracks with no memory of what I was on my way to do. But I’ve found that if I sit for a few seconds and take a deep breath, by the time I release it I can feel myself relax, and I immediately remember what I was going to do.

Mercury makes a square aspect to Neptune this week (June 3, 2026, 5:58 pm PDT, 4º06’ Cancer-Aries). Mercury’s the planet of cognition, and Neptune is the planet of forgetfulness – but also, of deep relaxation. So this week, if you find yourself struggling to retrieve details from your brain’s hard drive, the answer might be to stop trying so hard.
