TRANSCRIPT Ep. 365 | Libra New Moon, Venus in Scorpio: Can You Relate? (10.5.26)
Hello, invisible friend. April here, and the date today is October 5th, 2026. Welcome to episode 365 of The Big Sky Astrology Podcast. This week, Mercury makes a conjunction with Venus in Scorpio for some straight talk and healing conversations.
Mars and Uranus meet in a sextile, bringing opportunities to take action in innovative ways. Relationships, finances, and values get a fresh start with the Libra New Moon. But there is a little bit of a needle scratch as Venus squares Mars. And I answer a listener question about how to deal with transits that you really don’t wanna deal with.
Mercury conjoins Venus (Oct. 6, 2026, 5:10 pm PDT)
On Tuesday, October 6th at 5:10 PM Pacific Time, Mercury comes together in a conjunction with Venus at 8 degrees 13 minutes Scorpio. Mercury connecting with Venus when it’s retrograde and in Scorpio is a time for straight talk. Mercury in Scorpio sees deeply. It observes everything, and it doesn’t hesitate to approach difficult subjects in a raw and honest way.
If there’s anything in your life, especially in your relationships, that really needs to be opened up and talked about, here is the day for it. Breakthroughs and healing conversations are the watchwords of the day, and especially anything you haven’t wanted to talk about before because it feels the slightest bit taboo. And it can be taboo in a general sense, but it can also just be the kind of topic that feels taboo within your relationship. It’s the kind of thing you just never discuss.
This is the same degree that Venus stationed retrograde on last week, 8 degrees 30 minutes Scorpio, on the Sabian symbol 9 Scorpio, Dental work. And what I mentioned then goes double at this Mercury-Venus conjunction. To heal things and to stop the pain often means digging in and getting rid of all the decay.
Mars sextile Uranus (Oct. 7, 2026, 3:41 am PDT)
Mars sextiles Uranus on Wednesday, October 7th at 3:41 AM Pacific Time at 5 degrees, 24 minutes Leo and Gemini. If you want to use Mars in Leo to create something, some artistic project, this week’s Mars-Uranus sextile is perfect for that. Uranus symbolizes that spark of originality that makes anything you create completely yours.
And Uranus in Gemini definitely brings something fresh to anything related to words, writing, or speaking. The 60-degree sextile aspect brings together planets that are in signs of compatible element. Mars in Leo, which is a fire sign, gets a boost from Uranus in Gemini, an air sign. And under this influence, the fire grows larger and more vibrant.
But Mars and Uranus together can bring accidents or missteps as well, especially saying the wrong things to the wrong people at the wrong time. It makes me think of the Sabian Symbol for Mars, 6 Leo, An old-fashioned woman and an up-to-date girl. Those are two very different females, and the approach that works when talking to one is possibly going to fall flat or even offend the other.
So try to show a little care in how you are communicating with people, and bear in mind that the way you approach different people can be the difference between a very good outcome and a dubious one.
Libra New Moon (Oct. 10, 2026, 8:50 am PDT)
Now it’s time for the Moon Report, and we begin, as always, with the week’s major lunation. This week, that is the Libra New Moon on Saturday, October 10th, at 8:50 AM Pacific Time at 17 degrees, 21 minutes Libra. The New Moon in Libra is the moment each year to focus your intentions in the direction of relationships, and not only romantic ones.
Yes, if you’re wishing for a partner or you need to make a change in an existing relationship, this is the right moment for that. But if you’ve been having trouble in any relationship – with someone in your family or a close friend – this can also be a really important New Moon, especially since the Sun and Moon are in opposition to Saturn at this New Moon at 10 degrees 49 minutes Aries.
This is an opposition that can point to resistance coming from a partner or another person, or it can suggest that you yourself are uneasy with the direction that a relationship is taking. Drawing appropriate boundaries is important right now, but be careful not to draw them so tightly that no one can get through at all.
This New Moon is also sextile Jupiter at 21 degrees 15 minutes Leo, and brings an opportunity for travel and enjoyment with important people in your life. The Sabian symbol for this New Moon degree is, 18 Libra: Two men placed under arrest. The arrest part certainly suggests that Saturn influence of being restrained or hampered.
It doesn’t actually tell us whether the men have actually done anything wrong, which brings to mind the part of Libra that’s concerned with fairness and justice. And the sextile to Jupiter, of course, does have a tendency to go a little bit far, to get a little bit out of control. If you find yourself getting stopped in your tracks at this New Moon, consider that it just might be the universe’s way of protecting you from yourself.
Lunar Phase Family Cycle
This is the New Moon in a lunar phase family cycle that will unfold over the next three years at nine-month intervals, as major lunations fall near this New Moon degree. The First Quarter in this cycle comes on July 10th, 2027 at 18 degrees, 17 minutes Libra. Whatever these changes are that you might be contemplating at this New Moon in relationships might be ready for some kind of action at that First Quarter Moon.
The Full Moon nine months later, on April 9th, 2028, at 20 degrees, 5 minutes Libra, is the time when we begin to get a clearer picture of what we are planting at this New Moon. And nine months after that, on January 7th, 2029, is the Last Quarter Moon in this cycle at 17 degrees, 32 minutes Libra. That is the time when, having seen how this New Moon cycle has been playing out, you are in a better position to make a final action in this New Moon series.
It may be time to take decisive action in a relationship that you’ve been looking at and thinking about for 27 months up to then. And it may also be time to put everything about the cycle in perspective based on what you’ve observed and experienced up to that time.
Void-of-Course Moon periods
Let’s look at the Void-of-Course Moon periods for this week.
On Tuesday, October 6th, the Moon in Leo makes a conjunction with Jupiter at 3:22 AM Pacific Time. The Void-of-Course period begins at 3:22 AM on Tuesday, October 6th, and ends at 7:53 PM when the Moon enters Virgo, a period of 16 hours and 31 minutes. When the Moon comes together in a conjunction with another planet as it’s going Void-of-Course, it says that this is going to be a Void-of-Course period where we assimilate some of the qualities of that Moon sign.
The Moon in Leo is warm-hearted; it’s generous, and when it comes together with Jupiter, these qualities are expanded. Consider opening your home to others for a little get-together. Have a living room jam session with fellow musicians, or spend a few hours painting canvases with a couple of your most craft-loving friends during this Void-of-Course Moon period. And consider making this a regular event that everybody can enjoy and look forward to.
On Wednesday, October 7th, the Moon in Virgo sextiles Mercury at 11:57 AM Pacific Time. The Void-of-Course period begins at 11:57 AM on Wednesday, October 7th, PDT. It’s Void-of-Course for one day, 13 hours and 13 minutes before it enters Libra on Friday, October 9th at 1.10 AM. This is a very long Void-of-Course Moon period, so if you want to break a habit, this would be an excellent time to do it.
The Moon in Virgo is ruled by Mercury in Scorpio. Both of these signs like to break things down to the nitty-gritty so that the core of whatever’s being picked apart is fully revealed. Use this Void-of-Course Moon period to dig deep into the psyche for answers to a quality that you would like to change. Once the root of this issue is discovered, that’s when healing and transformation can begin.
And on Saturday, October 10th, the Moon in Libra sextiles Jupiter at 4:07 PM Pacific Time. It’s void of course for 16 hours and 14 minutes and then enters Scorpio on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 8:21 am. When the Moon makes a sextile to another planet as it’s going Void-of-Course, as we often say, it brings an opportunity or an invitation.
The Moon in Libra needs harmony, balance, and companionship. Jupiter in Leo would love to take these Libran traits and shine them out to the masses for all to see, with the hope that inspiration will be the result.
If you happen to be out and about this Saturday, try to be extra kind to others. If you see an expired parking meter, throw a couple of coins in there. Buy a coffee for the person behind you in line at your favorite cafe. Donate your extra change to a good cause. Tip generously. Use this Void-of-Course Moon period to develop a habit of practicing kindness and generosity.
Venus square Mars (Oct. 10, 2026, 2:31 pm PDT)
On Saturday, October 10th, at 2:31 PM Pacific Time, Venus retrograde squares Mars at seven degrees 21 minutes Scorpio and Leo. There are certain relationships that are extremely passionate, but may involve two strong-willed people who fight a lot. A square between Venus and Mars is one of these aspects, and especially in the fixed and willful signs of Scorpio and Leo.
These planets first formed a square to each other on July 29th in the signs of Virgo and Gemini, and the nature of the dispute between them then had to do with the difference between doing things perfectly and doing a lot of things well enough. But Scorpio and Leo, especially with Venus retrograde, can bring up old grudges, familiar fights, and a lack of willingness to meet each other halfway.
The two will make a final square on January 16th, 2027, after Venus has moved on from Scorpio and Mars from Leo. At that square, they will be in Sagittarius and Virgo, which are two mutable signs, and maybe they’ll be more willing to let bygones be bygones.
Listener Question: Working with transits when you don’t want to
In this week’s listener question, listener Angela asks, “What’s the best way to work with a transit when you really, really don’t want to? I’ve got a Pluto transit to the Moon coming up that I am not looking forward to, and in fact, I’m pretty anxious about it. Help!”
Angela, into each life, some difficult transits must fall, and I completely sympathize with feeling some anxiety when you see them coming along.
Pluto transits are the ones that my clients tend to fear the most. We imagine the very worst will happen. Illness, the deaths of those close to us, losing a home or a job. And it would be disingenuous of me to pretend that these kinds of things are never part of a visit from Pluto. But fundamentally, Pluto transits simply say that we have to get rid of what isn’t needed or working in our lives, and that our lives are due for a big change.
Pluto is especially troubling when it’s in aspect to the Moon. That’s a planet that symbolizes the things and people closest to our hearts, what is dear and tender, the kinds of things we fear losing the most because they offer us support and caring. Nobody looks forward to a wrecking ball coming after those areas of our lives.
I had a transit of Pluto oppose my natal Moon some years ago, and it did bring the death of a dear aunt who helped raise me, and that was hard. But here’s something modern astrologers often don’t consider, and that is that the Moon also represents our relationship with the public. During that same transit, in fact, just a couple of weeks before I lost my aunt, I registered the domain name bigskyastrology.com, which eventually brought me recognition and, honestly, pretty much my entire career.
Angela, you didn’t mention whether the Moon and Pluto share an aspect in your natal chart, and that can make a big difference. I would say the transit might make itself felt even a little more strongly if the two are connected in your birth chart. It’s as though they have old unfinished business between them and a conversation that needs to be resolved.
Now, how can you prepare for this transit? Well, the first thing is the fact that you know about it at all astrologically is hugely helpful. Imagine if you didn’t know and you just got sideswiped out of the blue. Secondly, the nature of the planets gives you some idea of the work that needs to be done. Pluto transits ask us to let go of what’s not necessary.
Now, we might disagree with Pluto about what is and isn’t necessary, but start out on a very mundane level. What can you willingly let go of in your home, which is ruled by the Moon? Start small and unthreatening. It’s time for a major purge as a signal to the universe that you’re prepared to play ball.
Clean out all the closets. Do you need to repair the roof of your garage or get your house treated for termites? The grittier the job, the more demolition that’s involved, the better. Basically, don’t assume that the very worst is going to happen with a transit. In the case of Pluto, it’s definitely time for some change and some type of letting go.
So try to cooperate by changing and letting go willingly in the ways that you can plan. And as for the rest, try to let the transit be what it needs to be, and try not to freak out about it in the present.
Angela, I hope that that helps, and the best of luck with your Pluto-Moon transit!
