Venus and Pluto: What you have left

This lovely story really spoke to me when I ran across it.  I haven’t found a better metaphor for Pluto/Venus transits (and believe me, with transiting Pluto opposing my natal Venus, I’ve been looking for them) – transits that often make us feel that too much has been taken from us. Perhaps, in light of today’s Venus/Pluto conjunction, it will speak to you too.

Violinist Itzhak Perlman was crippled by polio in childhood and walks with the aid of braces on his legs and a pair of crutches. At a concert on the night of November 18, 1995, at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City, one of the strings of his violin suddenly snapped during the performance. Stunned, the audience held their collective breath, expecting Perlman to stop and leave the stage. Instead he paused, then continued playing – adjusting, creating, compensating as he went along, and when he put down his bow at the end of the concert, a mighty roar of applause filled the hall. When it had died down, he spoke to the audience: “You know, sometimes it is the artist’s task to find out how much music you can still make with what you have left.”

  • Venus in Taurus is just too lazy to get up and restring.

  • Thanks for this. I’ve got transiting Pluto opposite natal Venus, too. Venus in Cancer doesn’t play the violin but just baked some banana bread out of mushy bananas… 🙂

Awesome. I’ve got a natal Venus/Pluto square and there you go. Thanks for this, April.

  • Wonderful lesson for each of us.

Dealing with limited circumstance I am encouraged to see what I can do with what is left.

I totally needed to hear that, April! Thanks 🙂 Today marked a low point, but it makes a helluva lot of sense when the conjunction is sitting on my MC and here I am contemplating why I feel so completely adrift career-wise, LOL :-/

    • Pluto going over an angle is a big deal, Kat. At some point all you can do is throw up your hands in defeat and let Pluto put you where he wants you to be. 🙂

    Wild man, kinda wonder sometimes what’s really goin’on. THANKS! Pluto’s o.k., w/me anyways…

  • Hee! I love that story. Hang in there, sweetheart. Pluto opposing natal Venus must not be fun. The last major Pluto transit I had (Pluto squaring natal Venus) saw me at my financial and emotional ends. I have faith that, whatever is left, you can make the most of it.

  • Inspiring story – thank you for posting it, April. Hope your Venus-Pluto opposition turns out to be more an ‘attraction of opposites’ than a ‘conflict of opposing forces’. Sympathies, anyway, from one who’s got Pluto squaring Venus and about to pass over Desc. – and I’ve got pretty much nothing left to lose on the material plane!
Let’s hope there will be positive benefits from all this for all of us.

Very inspiring! Pluto has been on my natal Venus for several months now challenging in many ways, and this conjunction just moved into my 2nd house. So far so good but I’m on the lookout for transformation here, so whatever comes, I’ll do my best to remember to make music or art. Thank you for all your sharing.

I have transiting Pluto opposing my Natal Venus this year….uggg….what’s so interesting is that my husband’s (natal) pluto conjuncts my (natal) venus….and MY venus (natal) conjuncts his (natal) pluto exactly….makes me wonder if this transiting pluto/venus opposition is going to affect my marriage? He is 32 years older than me…we’ve been married for 32 years. (I am 57 and he is 89)…I am worried that perhaps this is not good….anybody have any ideas that can help me understand what to expect? I suppose his NATAL pluto is now opposing transiting pluto?

    • Actually, my natal Pluto is conjunct my husband’s natal Venus (and Mars). Sounds like we’d kill each other, but we get along famously after 22 years of knowing one another and almost 20 years of marriage. I wrote this piece a few years ago at beginning of my opposition; now that it’s all over, I can say that it was an almost entirely positive experience for me personally and that my marriage suffered no problems whatsoever. I actually loved that transit! Hope you do too, Mira.

This was a beautiful example. Thank you. Pluto is now opposing my Venus 0 Leo in the 10th house and I’m just coming out of the square to my Libra moon. Pluto has been for ages in my 4th and will continue to do so.

Me and my bf don’t have problems , and I’m currently unemployed so I wonder what the transit will do to me.

I’ve cut off contact with narcissistic brother few years ago , and this week I finally cut contact with a very selfish friend. I hesitated too long to do that.

But it was for the best at least for my sanity , no more codependency.

    Thank you April
