Rules of Engagement: Saturn in Libra October
29, 2009 through October 5, 2012 (except between April 7 - May 30, 2010).
Saturn enters Libra in late October 2009 and
will remain until October 2012 (aside from a brief period
between April 7 and July 21, 2010, when it retrogrades back
into Virgo). Since Libra is the sign that is traditionally
associated with marriage, Saturn in this sign has special
significance for couples marrying in 2010.
Saturn has a reputation as the Solar System's biggest
badass, a sinister planetary Darth Vader who kicks you in the shins and steals
your lunch money. Who wants to invite a guy like that to your wedding?
Well,
it helps to remember that Saturn is exalted in the sign of Libra - this
means that, according to traditional astrology, Saturn functions especially well
in this sign. He cleans up real nice when you dress him in Libran clothes and
spray a little cologne on him. All things Libran - partnerships, finances, the
arts, diplomacy - prosper when they operate within a clearly-defined structure
and according to established rules. They also thrive under the stewardship of
individuals who are mature and serious about their commitments. Structure,
rules, maturity, and seriousness of purpose are all Saturn territory. So Saturn's
tenure in Libra marks an especially auspicious time to begin a marriage.
Saturn
has a roughly 29-year cycle, so approximately every seven years - when Saturn
forms a critical aspect to its position in your wedding chart - a couple is called
upon to reevaluate the rules of their marriage and renew their commitment. In
immature or tenuous marriages, this can result in the famous "seven year
itch." But if you approach these predictable transitions with consciousness
and intention, these can be opportunities to make your marriage stronger than
ever.
